Visits to Aston Church of All Saints
Historically, Springwood and Church of All Saints have had very strong connections, maintained in a variety of ways. At Christmas, Years 1 and 3 had a lovely morning celebrating Christingle through a lovely service at the Church. In March, FS2 and Year 2 visited to celebrate Easter, again taking part in a lovely service and retelling the Easter story.
Open the Book
Every half-term, Open the Book returns to school to hold whole school assemblies which retell a particular story from the Bible, ranging from the Nativity story and the Easter Story to David and Goliath. The pupils adore the interactive singing at the end!
Councillor Pitchley and Councillor Taylor
On a number of occasions, Councillor Pitchley and Councillor Taylor, our local Councillors, have visited school to take part in School Assemblies such as awarding certificates to our Mini Police. They also contributed to our KS2 Careers Event.
Key Stage 2 Careers Event
In the Spring term, a number of members of the community attended Springwood's Careers Event, ranging from local businesses, local Councillors and parents with 'unusual' jobs. Aston Academy's Careers Advisor also joined us, and spoke with a number of our Year 5 and 6 pupils to give advice and guidance of what they need to do in order to fulfil their dreams. The pupils enjoyed discovering 'different' jobs, and it really gave them 'food for thought'!
Harvest Festival and New Hope Food Bank
In October, the whole school, led by the School Council, participated in the donation of food and other essential household items as part of our Harvest Festival celebrations. Historically, we have donated this collection of items to the Archer Project in connection with Sheffield Cathedral. However, this year, having formed strong links with the local Food Bank, the donations were given to them in order to support the important work that they have been undertaking within our local area.
