Welcome to our Year 5 class page!

In Year 5, we strive to be the best we can be by valuing progress over perfection and fostering a love of Reading for Pleasure. We are committed to ensuring that everyone’s rights are met, particularly the rights to learn, to be safe, to be healthy, and to be respected. Together, we create a positive and supportive environment where every individual can thrive. We endeavour to ensure the pupils become independent learners, responsible and caring individuals who aim high in life.  We take PRIDE in who we are, the way we learn and behave, and enjoy celebrating our successes and achievements with each other.

Reading

"Reading is the key that opens many doors in life!"

As one of our 'Key Drivers' at Springwood, we are passionate in our drive for our pupils to become readers for life! Each week, we expect the children to read a minimum of five times - they can then move on to the next location on the Reading Challenge Map! The aim is for 80% of the class to have read 5 times, so that we can get an 80% Club Token on the Whole School Reading Challenge Chart - we want to win the 80% Club Trophy!

Reading for pleasure has a powerful impact on children’s development. When children enjoy books, they not only build stronger vocabulary and comprehension skills, but also develop imagination, empathy, and curiosity about the world around them. Regular reading supports learning across all subjects, boosts confidence in writing and speaking, and helps children relax and unwind. Most importantly, children who see reading as fun are more likely to become lifelong learners with a love of stories and knowledge.

Our current class book is Spy Master!
